My gob had never been so smacked when were doing our weekly shop in Tesco. It's own brand gin and vodka one litre bottles had gone up from £18.75 the week before to £24.38! It is now the same price as the supposedly higher quality Gordon's and Smirnoff.
A few years ago an own brand gin was about £15 then the Welsh government instituted a minimum cost per unit that increased it to the £18.75 price. They have now increased the minimum cost per unit to 50p with the resultant increase to £24.38.
Here's a question, who is getting the extra £6 per bottle? Is it tax or extra profit for the supermarket?
Here's another observation, it has made the own brand the same price as the premium. Why buy own brand?
This whinge was brought to you by seeing a Tesco advert where they are selling 'mid strength' gin and vodka with the usual 35 proof reduced to 20 proof with a resultant drop in price and now approaching the old price.

I blame Burnham. Things were never this bad under TLSK.

We were shocked by the price of booze in Scotland when we were there.
A wanker AND a pansy apparently.

I think you mean Owain Glyndŵr. He was a champion for an independent Wales in the 15th century that has eventually ended up with the people of Wales having to pay more for drink than the Sais.Julian Mince wrote: ↑Tue Oct 20, 2026 10:02 amI blame Burnham. Things were never this bad under TLSK.
