I have made a mistake.

Spurred on by the talk on this thread of air fryers with built in slow cookers, I decided to upgrade. I found a bargain on Amazon - a Ninja air fryer/slow cooker/pressure cooker (and some other steam cooking abilities). I waited eagerly for it to be delivered yesterday. As I was going out, I asked for it to be sent to my local shop which is an Amazon pickup point. It transpired that I didn't go out in the end, so I waited in all day for the notification that it had arrived so I could go and fetch it. No such notification arrived. The delivery driver couldn't find the shop, despite it being in a row of shops, and it had a big sign saying "This shop takes Amazon parcels" above the door.

I contacted Amazon this morning to complain. They assured me it would arrive today. It did. I collected it this afternoon.

With a huge sense of excitement (beef bourguignon was planned for this evening - a good test of pressure cooking I thought) I took it from the car and hurried to the kitchen. I read the instructions, which I'm sure you will all agree is a strange thing for a man to do. Step 3 said "install the silicone O ring". I didn't see a silicone O ring. I checked the packaging but couldn't find one. I checked it again. Still no silicone O ring made itself noticeable. I swore. I swore again and kicked the box. I then swore once more for good measure. "Bum!" I said very loudly.

Sense then prevailed. I would look on Amazon for a replacement silicone O ring and then discuss reimbursement. Silicone O rings for Ninja air fryer combos such as mine are like rocking horse poo. They are either out of stock or available for delivery in mid-Jan. Amazon have refunded me £28 for the O ring - I've found one on eBay for £17 which will be here by the end of the week. Amazon did not say "Hey Jules, we'll send you another complete Air Fryer" which made me smell a rat. Not that I have rats around Mince Towers of course, it was a hypothetical rat.

Livid doesn't cover it. I'd given my current air fryer and slow cooker to a friend so that space could be cleared for my new toy. Silly Jules. It's toast for tea again. I'm not happy. Even my watch just told me I've had a stressful day. No shit Sherlock! I've had to buy a new bass to cheer me up.

The bass? I couldn't possibly do that Sandra - it hasn't arrived yet and it does look rather lovely.

I do miss my little crockpot. Empty can of cider for scaling purposes:

When buying expensive items, I try to get them from John Lewis. Their after sales service is always good.

Enjoy the Bass though. You wouldn't get that from JL.

Thanks RB. Sadly the Peterborough John Lewis is no more. It closed for a multi-million pound refit then closed permanently not long afterwards. A great shame. Perhaps if they had sold basses and other important musical devices, they might still have a local presence. We will never know. It is an indoor golf place now. I won't be visiting.

I would be devastated if our JL closed down!

It's bad enough that Windows has closed!

Wasn't it an misfunctioning O ring that caused the demise of a NASA rocket and its occupants?

It was PP. You are not wrong.

The parallels are not lost upon me, and I'm sure many of my fine messageboard chums too.
