I have one word to describe him.
Oaf.
No Radio 2 for me until four now.

The theme tune playing reminds me of Sunday evening and being sent off for my weekly bath 'cos next day was school day. It marked the end of the weekend (boo) and thought of the week ahead (double boo). I really didn't like school. Or baths.

Has much changed in the intervening years?

Do you know what Jules? I would enjoy school now, I loves a bit of learning, me. As for baths, I could never see the point in laying in one's own dirt. I prefer a shower.

Vernon Kay asked 100 hundred hippos "Do you prefer lazing in a stagnant pool of mud or having a shower...".

I wholeheartedly agree with you on both counts there PP. Time is a great healer indeed.

Radio Two are not covering themselves in glory here.
Ken has been part of the BBC for 45 years. They have decided in their wisdom to finish him three weeks early, so he's leaving this Friday.
You'd think they'd treat someone who's worked tirelessly for them for all that time better.

I loved the educational side of school.
It was the other stuff (people) that I hated.

The best thing about Vernon Kay is that he's not Rylan, or DJ Spoony, who got a go in the chair at Christmas time.
That doesn't say much, but says it all, really.
In the good old bad old days of the BBC message board we used to berate Ken and his producer Gary Bones for the samey, predictable 70s/early 80s playlist. They seem like halcyon days now.

He has covered for Zoe a few times I didn’t hear it myself but Nobby said he was good. I may listen on a Monday. Give him a chance.

Yes, but there's good and there's good in comparison to Zoe Ball.
These are different things.

He isn't too bad actually.
