White Star Liner - PSB:

There's always one I don't much like and this is the one - dull.
I have to say, I agree with you on this. I am a huge fan of some of their earlier work but this just doesn't seem very well thought out. In fact I'd say it sounds too much like one of their earlier songs. I hope they haven't reached their capacity for making that newsreel/music thing new and different

Really enjoying a couple of albums at the moment one by J Mascis from Dinosaur Jnr and the other Walter Martin from Walkmen. Both meloncholy versions of the material their respective bands perform.

I'm a puppy - Waletr Martin
Album Reminisce Bar & Grill

J Mascis - See You At The Movies

Album Elastic Days

Both quite lovely

THis is quite nice too
Old Stuff, New Glass - The Orielles

MONO - Breathe
If you had a space for your "favourite Japanese post rock band" then look no further. A very pretty song with, unusually for them, vocals

Paul White - Soul Reunion
I had heard of this guy a few years ago but it was that posh bloke who stood in for Writey earlier in the year Amol Rajan. Great album this is off too

Kelly Moran - Helix
Another pretty song

Asa Moto - Soon Please
Again from a very interesting album, a little experimental but nice though

Not wasted time but not keepers either. The Orielles have a nice touch of the St Etienne's about them.

The first two are up my street, especially the Cold Cave.

The Alien got a bit dirgy while the Harvey-Baker is a bit plinky guitar folky for my tastes - neither lasted the distance I'm afraid.

Thank you, and thank you for adding to the mix.

I was thinking of Melbourne music - I'm a big fan of The Avalanches - I think they're from your City.

(No, that doesn't mean I think you must know them  )

That's what this thread is about.

I despise those "there's no good music about these days compared with........" any period where that person had more time to listen to music or search it out.

Here we tap into each others time and discover cracking new stuff.
Not always to everyones taste though.

Very well put, Undi.

A lot of older people seem to default to the music of their earlier years whereas I hardly listen to it all unless it's reappraise stuff I'd dismissed at the time.

My tastes do the opposite and I've listened to a much wider range of music in the last ten years than previously.

It is sometimes annoying that I instinctively tend to compare everything with what went before but I guess that's an age thing.

It's also useful having Miles around to keep me updated with what's new in hip-hop/R&B/dance - there's no avoiding the fact that, although I really love a lot of it, it's traveling a very different road to what most of my generation is familiar with.

That said, I sometimes get really annoyed with people who try and tell me that rap/hip-hop/electronic isn't 'my' music because I'm too old and I have to point out that I was there for the first major hip-hop show in London and buying imported 12" hip-hop tracks from day one.

I'm sure I've posted them in the past but, as I was mentioning, I'm old now. I guess these were the ones that really stopped me in my tracks when I first heard them - very tame and a touch dull now of course but there's still a very recognisable link to what's going on nearly 40 years later:

Kurtis Blow-The Breaks

Grandmaster Flash - The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel (original mix)

Afrika Bamabaataa & The Soulsonic Force - Planet Rock

Car Seat Headrest.
I don't know whether it's some sort of hipster in joke but their name sounds stupid to me.
Their music is pretty good though.

6M are posting their Dj's favourite albums and these are tracks from a a couple that I have had time to listen to
Nils Frahm - All Melody
I posted the live version because this guy is something special, even if to be honest this isn't one of his better ones. Bit more electronic sounding than his earlier stuff

Idles - Samaritan
new punk from a well respected new band

Erland Cooper -Whitemaa
Strange dark sounding thing, from a similar feeling album

and some other stuff

Anderson .Paak - Cheers feat. Q-Tip

Julia Jacklin - Body

Anna Calvi - As a Man

I have a friend who is really into his female singer/songwriters and is really keen on her. I can't say I know much by her and not a fan of traditional singer songwriters per say. Like what I know.

Nadine Shah is another one he talks about a lot

I like that - sort of Jefferson Airplane meets Black Sabbath.
