Johnnie Walker
Tiggy tweeted this afternoon that Johnnie needs 'an upgrade' to his heart. This means he'll be off SOT70's and his rock show for the next 6 weeks.
Tom Robinson is sitting in for SOT70's and Hughie Morgan will be looking after the Rock show.

Re: Johnnie Walker
I rarely listen to R2 anymore, I find the presenters just bloody annoying. But if I'm in the car on the weekend and there's nothing on R4 or Classic FM I have listened to JW, he's a great presenter and obviously loves the music he plays. Get well soon Johnnie.

Johnnie's SOT70's is the only show I listen to on R2.

Re: Johnnie Walker
I'll miss him. I listen to Ken, Johnnie and POTP if they're decent years. That's it.
Re: Johnnie Walker
Just caught up with this now and am saddened. I've always loved listening to Johnnie going back to Radio 1 days.
Realised that I hardly listen to R2 anymore either. Just Johnnie, sometimes Ken but I forget to switch over, and Lisa T on Saturday as I like her odd music choices. Oh and SOTS and Don Black (when he's on) on Listen Again.

Re: Johnnie Walker
Apparently Johnnie has had a triple heart bypass. Nothing minor then,
At least it's a common procedure these days, but 6 weeks doesn't seem a long recovery time.

He hasn't had the best of luck with health.
He's a good lad, and I'll bet that he's never shagged a kid.

Re: Johnnie Walker
Ditto that. Love Ken and shouting at the clueless on Pop Master. I don't mind Zoe Ball, but shes no Chris Evans let alone Wogan. Can't stand Sara Cox. Bad music, bad presenting and on commission from Manchester City Council to mention "Manchester" every fifth word. I strongly suspect she from Manchester.
Local radio and IPOD for the commute since December and classic rock at work.

Re: Johnnie Walker
I wondered if that was what he'd be having.
I didn't enjoy one of his stand in's comments last week. Something about when he went to EMI and 2 gay guys...... I'm no prude but it was a bit much. I was scrubbing out cupboards at Mum's flat at the time or I might have at least drafted a complaint.

Tediously I keep wanting to post ‘Yes please, a large one’
So, finally, I have.
Haven’t listened to him for decades but wish him well - always a decent broadcaster in the past.

Re: Johnnie Walker
Has his 70's show developed from just playing early 70's prog ? That was all he seemed to play in the early shows. Hardly representative of the most diverse decade in music
Re: Johnnie Walker
He wasn't fond of punk and new wave music if I recall correctly.

Re: Johnnie Walker
I'm sure the old hippy wasn't, but Punk, Disco and other styles other than traditional "rock" acts were movers and shakers in the 70's.

Re: Johnnie Walker
And as for the Bay City Rollers....
Re: Johnnie Walker
I would say he plays a range of music from the 70's nowadays. There are certainly plenty of complaints on his FB page when he plays punk.
As for the Bay City Rollers, he had Les Mckeown on the show last year.....

Re: Johnnie Walker
Yes, when R2 first started Sounds of the 70s Steve Harley presented and it was mainly prog, and went out late at night.
When Johnnie Walker took over and it moved to Sunday it became more pop/AOR orientated, of which Radio 2 played a lot during the week anyway.

Re: Johnnie Walker
I'm not sure if the DJ gets to pick the songs but the guy, standing in for Johnnie, put up a great playlist. Little Feat and Linda Ronstadt! (they have collaborated in the past).
How do you turn off signatures?
Re: Johnnie Walker
Tom Robinson.
He's quite good.
It's a pity that he has a willy, or he could have got a regular show.

Tom is on 6music. His Sunday evening show is excellent.
We met him at the 6music roadshow a few years ago. He's lovely.
