Brewdog, the Scottish brewer and pub chain, has announced plans for a beer-themed hotel in Edinburgh's Old Town.

The Doghouse-branded boutique hotel will be in a former school opposite the city council headquarters on Market Street.

"Expect beer on tap in all the rooms, mini-bars filled with the best beers in the planet and fridges in the shower for shower beers," co-founder James Watt said.

It is expected to open later this year.

The Aberdeenshire-based firm already operates a hotel next to its brewery in Columbus, Ohio, and another is due to open in Manchester.

Shareholders at Brewdog's annual general meeting on Saturday were given a hint of its plans for the Scottish capital, before Mr Watt's tweet confirming the details.

The conversion of the building in Market Street has been under way for the past five years and was originally intended for another boutique hotel operator.

Now I like a drink as much as the next man, as long as the next man is Oliver Reed of course, but who drinks beer in the shower.

It's The Man From Atlantis!

I remember Ed "Stewpot" Stewart saying on Junior Choice that he'd been swimming and had found TMFA's swimming style very effective, but then warned his young audience not to try it. I'm sure that Len Fairclough would make himself available to save any lives....

Was there a pre-requisite for 70s celebrity swimming instructors?

I wouldn't mind going as long as I wasn't expected to drink any craft beer, or the 'new' IPAs.

They'll be in the fridge in the toilet along with the Carling and Budweiser for obvious reasons.

I have to say I hate Beer Bladderists and Bladderism. Some of us have reduced bladder capacity and can't consume vast volumes of liquid to achieve the welcoming alcohol hit and need to consume the necessary levels of alcohol content via spirits such as gin and vodka along with mixers to ease the passage.

In my early 20's me and my pals had a thing called the five pint bladder club. It did what it said on the tin. Have a piss before the fifth pint and the next round was on you.
Oh the heady memories of youth and a strong bladder..

We used to reckon that once you 'cracked the seal' you were doomed.
There is something in that.
