Liza Tarbuck

Nothing to listen to on R5 (F1 - zzzz) or R4 (Clive Anderson - zzzz) so tuned into R2 and was pleasantly surprised by Liza Tarbuck's music choice.

Despite liking Liza in general, the show is terrible (who cares about who you are or where you listen) but a double James Brown following Jo Stafford and Hank Williams...

There is a problem that it's generally the obvious tracks, although not obvious to the majority. There are also some real stinkers 'but can you put your hands in your head, oh no...' but entertaining while I cooked dinner....

I haven't got the patience to listen to DJ's prattling on these days.
Mark and Lard used to be very good but as for the others,no thank you.

It was quite weird - Gil Scott-Heron followed by complete shite, albeit tongue-in-cheek.

Yes, he’s excellent for funk and soul.

I don’t listen much but I think Undi is a fan.

I’m really boring and limit my music radio to Mark Lamarr’s old ‘God’s Jukebox ‘ shows on Mixcloud.

He is shit on a stick.
His act is practically a caricature

I don’t much care for him but the music is spot on if you like soul and funk.

I have heard Liza from time to time when she was standing in for another presenter, she usually gets the Bank Holiday shifts. She's a good presenter and does well on panel shows where her laugh is very infectious.

As I said, I like her, but that show is very banal - I don't care if the listener is cooking shallots in a forest or whatever...

I never liked him except his music shows which are as close to perfect music radio as I've ever heard (maybe even better than Peel).

In contrast to 99%, he never much cared for 'fame' and is as happy going to car boot sales looking for vinyl as anything else.

He resigned from his R2 show because he felt the R2 management were basically uninterested in supporting non-mainstream music and that, despite it's popularity, R2 wouldn't air his show before midnight.

As far as I can tell, he pretty much retired at that point (2010).

He was arrested for assaulting an ex-girlfriend at his home last year but, just recently, the police issued him an apology stating he never should have been arrested. Rumour is that the ex was drunk and trying to drive away with a child (possibly his) in a car and he stopped her doing it.

If I get bored with shuffle or albums then I just listen to his old shows on mixcloud and they sound as fresh as ever, probably because even the new acts are pretty timeless.

I can't stand Tarbuck but live the show, as weird as that sounds. The music is always great. If only she was half as funny as she thinks she is.
CC is great, music always great to hear

I've had a look at Tarbuck's 'Music Played' list going back a few episodes and it's pretty impressive - don't know if I could put up with the chat in between though.

CC's selections are always great but a bit too close to my library - I prefer music that I don't know.
