Shame really...

Post by Maximus » Thu May 23, 2019 10:40 am

Not really a big Morrisey/Smiths fan but it's still a shame it's come to this. I understand how he got there, but doesn't make it right.
Spillers Records, the world’s oldest record shop, has banned Morrissey albums from sale.

The shop in Cardiff made the decision due to Morrissey’s support for the far-right political party For Britain, including wearing a badge with the party’s logo when performing on a US talk show this month.

“I’m saddened but ultimately not surprised that Spillers is unable to stock Morrissey’s releases any longer,” said the shop’s owner, Ashli Todd. “I only wished I’d done it sooner.”

I am sure in the collection of music sold in the store, there are other acts who aren't so pleasant too

Nowadays, every time Mozza speaks, another Smiths song dies

I agree but I think it’s a reaction to the recent public badge-wearing rather than a general banning of unsavoury characters.

I have a memory that Jo Cox’s killer identified with Britain First.

Oh, I am by no means condoning what Morressey has said or what unsavoury characters he likes but seems an odd thing to do. If they didn't sell many because his fans realised what a right wing plank he has become than fair enough.
