The Exiled-Again's Better Than Original album

Post by Phillip Phlopp » Tue Feb 28, 2023 11:31 am

In a shameless plagiarising of a spot on Johnny Walker's show how about a thread dedicated to re-recordings of well known songs?

Track 1. With a little help from my friends
Originally written and recorded by the Mop Haired Fab Four and sung by the fourth best drummer in the band.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you by Joe Cocker who gargles with rusty nut and bolts in the morning to give his delivery a unique edge. Apart from Laura Nyro, natch.

"Just going for a stroll in the trees..."

Now you see I love that version but I also love the original and the Isaac Hayes version. Sign of a great song I guess.

All the Young Dudes
Mott the Hoople.
Miles better than Bowie's version
(Which would have involved him doing a video in spandex pants or something).

Oooh I concur Grace's version of Private Life is a banging tune. Do Yoofs still say that? I could be a pensioner you know...

Better than the Dylan version

Mind you; most of what he wrote sounded better sung by others.
Great writer, whiny singer.

Normally I'd agree but this time give me the Dylan version....

This is the best cover. I love it, a different class to Adele. Ferry does a lot of Dylan's stuff much better than Dylan.
There are some of Dylan's songs that only he can do though.

Along with SAHB, mentioned in the previous post. Humble Pie are among the best live bands I ever saw. The 70's were great times...

Hey man, if you can remember the 70s then, like, you weren't there.
