Oh why oh why oh why?

Yep, Ed Sheeran has won a copyright battle with some other singers I've never heard of who claimed that Ed's Shape of You chorus, where he sang “oh I oh I oh I”, was actually stolen from their own chorus “oh why oh why oh why”.

Mind you, I have never heard Ed's Shape of You either.

Another more famous plagiarism writ was over George Harrison's 'My Sweet Lord' where he was found to have subconsciously plagiarised The Chiffons' 1963 hit single 'He's So Fine'. Bang to rights there Georgie. Cost him half a million Yankee dollars.

Aren't you the lucky one.
Odd thing, ain't it... you meet people one at a time, they seem decent, they got brains that work, and then they get together and you hear the voice of the people. And it snarls.

I liked George's 'version' better anyway.
I felt most sorry for Men at Work.
They only had one hit.

Ah, the only song that contains the word 'chunder'. Presumably 'cos they wanted a word to rhyme with the title.

The singer was born in Ayrshire, so will be no stranger to thievery

I have the vaguest memory of another plagiarism trial where the judge queried the barrister representing the party who claimed they were plagiarised...

Judge: So tell me, how many notes are there in a musical scale?

Barrister: Umm, there are eight I believe m'lud.

Judge: Eight? Just eight?

Barrister: Yes m'lud

Judge: Hmm... so your client is claiming that the defendant arranged a tune using a combination of eight of the notes that your client once used?

Barrister: <worried> Well, yes, in a manner of speaking

Judge: Case dismissed
