To get on the show the contestants had to have a lip-trembling, heart-wrenching back story, usually a grandparent who wanted to see their grandchild succeed on X-Factor but <sniff> died unexpectedly and tragically and the contestant wanted to do it for gran/granddad.
With X-Factor now gone, grandparents across the land will feel just that little bit safer...
