Another good reason to avoid Eric Clapton concerts

Post by Claude Balls » Fri Jul 23, 2021 10:40 am

British rock icon Eric Clapton has said he will not perform at venues that require concertgoers to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said proof of vaccination must be shown at clubs and venues from September. Clapton said he will not perform anywhere there is a "discriminated audience present".

His announcement came through the social media accounts of an outspoken anti-vaccine activist. The guitarist said he felt "honour bound" to make the statement, which was posted on Wednesday to the accounts of Italian architect and film producer Robin Monotti.

In May, Clapton said he had experienced a "severe" reaction to the AstraZeneca vaccine.

In a letter to Mr Monotti, he blamed "propaganda" for overstating the safety of the vaccine. He added that he feared the "disastrous" reaction would leave him unable to play music again.

I've only seen Eric Clapton once and he was very disappointing. He was on the bill for the Knebworth Silver Clef Winners concert in 1990. No crowd pleasers (apart from Sunshine Of Your Love). Mind you Ray Cooper was there as part of Elton John's band and he was awesome as usual: https://youtu.be/octF6PLsx1g?t=355
I know a man who taught his dog to play the trumpet on the London Underground.
He went from Barking to Tooting in an hour.

I like quite a lot of Clapton's music.

However we saw him live a while back and you might as well have been watching a hologram. No interaction with the audience, he really looked like he didn't want to be there.

I'd avoid him in concert just because he might play Wonderful Tonight, an affront to music and the second worst song ever recorded.
That and he's a weapons grade hypocrite.
Odd thing, ain't it... you meet people one at a time, they seem decent, they got brains that work, and then they get together and you hear the voice of the people. And it snarls.

Now I'm intrigued.

I've never agreed much with what he's said in the past but I can see his point.
The vaccinations do not stop you from getting it or spreading it and may even kill you.
Best not to open clubs at all.

The number of people catching flu has dropped dramatically here this year.We have lockdowns.Work it out.

I was referring to his vile racist tirade from the stage of the Brum Town Hall in Spring 1976. Despite the fact that his fame and fortune came from his playing of "The Blues", a music form predominantly created by Black Americans, he had the fucking cheek to give basically a NF party political broadcast. " If they're Black send 'em back!" He shouted at one point, which was wildly cheered by a mainly white male Hippy type audience. I walked out disgusted at Mr Clappedout and his audience. I believe he later apologised blaming it all on his heroine addiction. Now I've never taken heroine but I'm fairly sure being a racist arsehole isn't one of the side effects.
As for "Wonderful Tonight", the patronising, twee, simplistic 3rd form schoolboy, vomit inducing lyrics are surely something Ed Sheeran or Bruno Mars would be proud of. There is only one song that makes me hit the off switch faster, and it has nothing to do with a certain Fat Dancer though he does feature in my Top Ten.

Yes he said he was a big Enoch Powell supporter at the time and he got involved with George Harrison's wife resulting in their divorce.A rock legend but a sack of shit as a person I think.
