I've mentioned this before but I think he's a finer song writer than Lennon or McCartney, together or apart...
Odd thing, ain't it... you meet people one at a time, they seem decent, they got brains that work, and then they get together and you hear the voice of the people. And it snarls.

At the time I didn't like his change of style .His first singles were real rockers but he mellowed into lyrical stuff which I appreciate a lot more now.
