Doug Putman, reported in The Telegraph, said that he was disappointed to lose the Oxford Street site, and was "prepared to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars on it, but the landlord apparently has a better offer."
Oxford Street will certainly be poorer without it.

I remember listening to Close To The Edge in one of those, that was that booth out of the equation for an hour.Phillip Phlopp wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 1:52 pmWill they reinstall those wooden cabinets (like a small enclosed telephone box) where you could stand and listen to the LP you wanted to buy? To get the authentic experience they'd have to ensure the worn-out earphones were a bit greasy and the cabinet smelt of cigarettes and wee (and something else you couldn't quite place but was a bit unpleasant).
There is a bunch of stuff that is better on Amazon than going to the shops, things like tools.
The things to shops for are clothes, shoes and food...that's it. Maplin, Comet, HMV, forget it. (actually, supermarkets do clothes and shoes!)
How do you turn off signatures?
Re: HMV
The real shame, it used to have a great store on the main sq in town. I have had lots of friends work there from leaving school and it was probably the main shop of any kind in that square but they moved into the shopping precinct and a vacant Zavvi/virgin store and it became a Nandos. I've only been in it half a dozen times over the years it has been there, probably the last time I bought anything was for an ipod docking station. Who uses them these days

The new owner had better get his finger (and wallet) out quickly. There was no-one in the store (apart from staff twiddling their thumbs) when I looked in yesterday, and the two new release CDs I would have expected to see and buy were not there - in fact, apart from Ariana Grande and The Specials I don't think they've received any new or replacement stock, and there's nothing to attract footfall.
