If you want normal radio

Simon Mayo is doing All Request Friday now on Greatest Hits radio.
Very little dead royals on that.
A wanker AND a pansy apparently.
Oh, and a wimp, and 'not a real man'.

I remember his all request show on R2, it was almost Smooth FM like in it's awfulness. That's what you get if you let the general public pick the tunes..
Odd thing, ain't it... you meet people one at a time, they seem decent, they got brains that work, and then they get together and you hear the voice of the people. And it snarls.

Its the tendency to select stuff that gets played all day everyday anyway.

That and the continual choice of old Bobbo’s Let Me Entertain You

I went out earlier - essential shopping of course. The car radio came on. Imagine by John Lennon. I hate that song. Switched stations. Imagine by John Lennon. Switched again. Imagine by John Lennon. Switched for a fourth time. Imagine by John Fucking Lennon. Switched the fucking radio off.

Why Imagine? I mean it's hardly a rollocking Royalist anthem is it, more the opposite really. It's hardly likely to be blasted out at Phil's internment. Perhaps Wagner or Demis Roussos would be more appropriate.

Even Planet Rock had engaged sombre mood. I think the heaviest tune I heard all day was The River by Springsteen...

Do you reckon her Maj is surfing the radio waves ready to be outraged for a station not playing Eva Cassidy & Adele?

If you're in the depths of despair and grief you need Leonard 'Slash-a-wrist-a-singsong' Cohen.

Doubt it but I'm sure loyal DM readers are. Personally I vent outrage at radio stations that play Eva Cassidy and Adele.

This has a bitching bassline though.

BBC Radio 2 appears to be intent on playing soppy stuff until at least Zoe Ball on Monday morning.

The big commercial stations are back to normal but even R2 on valium is better than those.

Interesting tweet regarding the North Korean-style shut down of TV programming following the death of Phil on Friday:
The overnight ratings are absolutely fascinating.

Total viewing was down by about 15% compared to last Friday.

ITV dropped below a million viewers in the 9pm primetime slot, which is almost unheard of.

At that point Ch4 had more viewers than BBC1, BBC2, ITV & Ch5 combined.
