That Phil Spector album was a must Chez Gassy for years, sadly not now.....

The Kinks - Father Christmas

I've said it before and I will say it again. Sir Ray is a far better song writer than Lennon or McCartney...

Simply having a wonderful Xmas time.......My arse!

I have the Kinks one on my christmas playlist, my OH isn't so keen as it's not full of Slade and Band Aid

I wasn't aware of the Kinks one until a few years ago I just put it on the playlist and left it, Evie was singing to it later on. It's a cracking tune.

All of the above also feature in my playlist

I found myself watching A Very Murray Christmas last night and I really enjoyed it's irreverence.

The most cynical Christmas song must be the Pretenders' 2000 Miles.
I think they must have had a message from their management to knock out a Christmas tune and they took bits from a few dozen places and diced and spliced this beauty...

Taking the pish, yes, but it's a good tune.

Pogues and Kirsty McCall anyone? Live version.

I miss Kirsty <sniff>

If I remember, my James Brown Christmas song advent calendar didn't go down so well here although, to be fair, his Christmas songs tend to be more about James Brown than Christmas anyway.

There are lots of good ones out there. I'm not a big Donny Hathaway fan but I like this one - very Stevie Wonder:

Donny Hathaway- This Christmas

The incomparable Jimmy Smith on organ for a jazzy Christmas workout:

Jimmy Smith - Jingle Bells

Esquivel and his unique space-age lounge sound:

Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town - Esquivel and his Orchestra

There has to be one:

Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto - James Brown

Iggy's listening to jazz

I'll have to find some time to work my way through this thread - looks promising.

In the meantime, I've just noticed that Radio 2's album of the week is the excellent JD McPherson's "Socks"

Oh hang on, here's the other one, and if anyone suggests that the Spice Girls version is better, a virtual kicking will be forthcoming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nud2TQNahaU

I really do not like that song but it does hold some wonderful memories for me. Christmas 1977 spent in a remote farm house on Llandefalle Hill near Brecon.
