Yes. Nice.

I've posted her a couple of times here and still have my original 'Disco Clone' 12".

Her second album (Sleep It Off) is said to be more to her taste (less dancey and darker) and is excellent. I've posted her Was Not Was produced Christmas song Things Fall Apart before and will again.

Fairly standard Jazz version but given the singer unbelievably poignant.

I may have posted this on the board pre Ground Zero but it is just so gorgeous it needs to be heard.

All excellent as usual.

Still need to catch up on late-period Iggy which, considering what a big fan I am, is criminal. He's unique and that version could only be his.

I still admire Amy Winehouse's voice and that's a very fine cover - still never been tempted to actually add any of her's to my library. I guess it's still the case of wanting to listen to the originals she modeled herself on rather than her version.

Like the Dreams although lacking a touch of edge.

Here's one from leftfield. The perfect voice for this one:

Andy Willliams

Concierto de Aranjuez Part 1
One of my favourite pieces of music ever written, and Miles Davis puts his stamp on it

Can't disagree with the Miles at all - you are having a jazz renaissance Undi!

The Fuzzy is a fun track - not one of Brian's greatest though and I probably (and rarely) prefer the cover.

Came across an article about cover versions, and only knew of one on the list so here are a few that I didn't

Considering that I am a fan of these, I'm surprised that I have only just come across this cover
Can't get you out of my head - Flaming lips
Lesson 1 in how to make a cover sound your own. Taken a 4 to the floor pop monster and slowed it down, making it sound sinister. Almost like from the perspective of a stalker or Ex

yuna - come as you are
Another cracking cover

Daughter - "Get Lucky"
Again, nothing like the original and emphasises the lyrics rather than the perfect pop dance of the original

Currently I think my favourite cover, been on a regular playlist since I first bought Night At The Playboy Mansion - Dimitri From Paris

Salome De Bahia - Outro Lugar

And another of theirs

A fairly obvious cover, aparently she was a show girl..... Still ok

This is Bap Kennedy doing his mate's Madame George (Van Morrison)
He wrote some nice little tunes himself.

It's always hard with covers because it's obviously pointless doing a remake but mangling a song simply to make it 'different' is equally stupid. It's one reason that reggae covers work so well in my opinion - it will always be different but will equally keep the essence of the original. It helps if you like reggae though...

Those three are all pretty good although the Daughter one is the weakest - the Yuna is the one that I like best.

I now have a pretty extensive Dimitri collection thanks to you introducing him Undi.

His 'In The House Of Disco' has been on my wants list for a while for the remix of Chic's 'Le Freak' and Sister Sledges's 'Lost In Music' but I notice they're both on a newish 2CD set of his remixed Chic productions - I've had a word with Father Christmas...

BTW, I can't confess coming across an original of 'Outro Lugar' - I'm presuming you didn't post it as a cover. Very fine though - I've got that one myself.

Very nice although clearly there's no chance of overshadowing the original.

I'd forgotten that 'Feeling Good' was written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for an early 60's musical.

Anthony Newley is a very interesting character who was a huge early influence on David Bowie, responsible for some pioneering TV (Gurney Slade), being married to Joan Collins and an extremely camp stage show.

Anyway - the Nina Simone version is the best-known one but this was recorded in the same year (1965) and is a touch more laid-back and subtle:

Pat Bowie With Charles McPherson - Feelin' Good - Prestige 1965

Doh! I never got far enough into the tune - he has a bad habit of renaming a lot of covers on all his albums.
