It's worth a catch-up.

We were in a shop in Amsterdam and there was a tune came on that I liked and he tells me it's Disclosure, a group I'd rather ignored as being a bit mainstream. To cut a long story short he played me this. He was annoyed as usual when I told him that I had several versions already, from Glenn Miller via Frank Sinatra, Elvis and, my favourite, Bow Wow Wow. This is lightweight but excellent IMO:

I am just starting to get Dylan, bought an "Essential Bob Dylan" album a few years ago and he has started to get in. After many years of only listening to the odd 1 or 2 tracks.

I think he's a poet and well deserved of his Nobel Prize..Not much of a singer admittedly but his voice suits his music much like Neil Young

Never really going to be a Bob fan, as much for personal as musical reasons (e.g. not liking certain people that are fans) and my general resistance to singer-songwriters. As usual, I can appreciate him and love a few of his tunes but...

I actually had his Greatest Hits from a relatively early age but I don't think it ever got any repeat plays.

I think I might have mentioned that I'm a bit of a Doris fan though, which surprised Mrs Max. Typically I like her jazzier output and, even more typically, my favourite of hers is 'Latin For Lovers' featuring four Jobim songs. Have I ever mentioned the genius of Jobim? I suspect I have.

Talking of poetry, I love Jobim's English lyrics, some he translated himself after learning English and others translated by others.

Jorge Ben tune on the song theme game thread reminded me of this fine funky number that gave rise to (was ripped off for) a big hit for a global raspy-voiced superstar a few years later. Great bass:

Despite me reading how massive they are they haven't really crossed my radar. Sort of a bastard child of indie and heavy metal. I tend to want one or the other really, not both at once.

They have done some great stuff though, certainly early on. Origins of symmetry and Absolution (the album this song is from) especially. Their cover of Feeling Good is great. That said I don't go out of my way to listen to them much, mostly on the grounds they are so heavy and I rarely find the moment to rock out these days and if I did there would be a plethora of other bands higher on the list

This song has been stuck in my head for days now.

I know I've gone on about Lovers rock forever but I truly believe it's the single most unfairly neglected genre of music. There are a few reasons including being an English form of romantic reggae at a time when reggae was all rasta and Marley for the majority. It also had a strong appeal amongst (mostly black) women (see below) which is often a barrier to being taken seriously by anorak blokes.

The Investigators are probably the best band the genre produced - I just love the vocals and harmonies:
