Peter Green is supposed to have been inspired by the first one.I think you can hear that.

We used to have a strange old bitter man on here a while back, one thing he did do of merit was post some real old 50's 7" from YT. I can't remember exactly what it was but the autoplayer put that Santo & Johnny song on next. It's a cracking tune, Teardrop by them is good too.

Albatross is a given, the only period of FM I can listen to. Not that anything they did then sounds anything like Albatross either.

What flavour is it?

As they used to say, Now for something completely different.

This came out 20 years ago, I genuinely can't believe it is 20 years though it still sounds so futuristic. The video is worth 10 minutes of your life.
Not many people have been able to make songs that simultaneously feel uncomfortable and intrigued

Santo & Johnny is great.

Albatross is also great and I remember it from childhood so it's pretty vivid. Soulsister on the old Radio 2 music board had Peter Green (writer and guitarist of/on the song) staying at her place in Brighton for 6 months during one of his periods of mental illness (I think they were ongoing) - I yhink it was the 90's but not sure. In fairness, although I knew she had a link with him, she kept it quiet and I only found out through a friend of hers.

The Soul Coughing is also decent although a touch too indie for me.

I didn't watch the Aphex Twin video as it involved signing in to YT with a password I can't remember but that's no problem since I mostly like to listen first without the visuals. I can't testify to how it sounded then but it sounds pretty good to me now.

I have a playlist that is just made up of indefinable bits and pieces and added this recently. My love of the Four Freshmen is well-publicised here so it's no surprise this is one of theirs. The YT link states it was sampled by J Dilla for a rare instrumental which I didn't know but he was one of the more imaginative hip-hop producers/samplers so that makes sense:

The Four Freshmen - Invitation

And the Dilla:

U and Ur Smile

Sorry Undi, I didn't make it clear that that's what I did and commented 'I can't testify to how it sounded then but it sounds pretty good to me now'.

Of the two I much prefer the Neutral Milk Hotel - attractively shambolic. Bap is fine but not for me.

I have a playlist called 'I Like That!' where I put odd things that come up on shuffle that are hard to categorise but that I love. Here are a couple of recent ones.

If you didn't know who it was you'd think this was an obscure rare groove tune dug up from a crate somewhere. Great guitar (wah-wah and lead), bass too:

Here's Looking At You Kid

This artist is very recognisable and off a classic album but maybe not as well-known a track as it should be. A more restrained vocal than normal:
