Good luck with defining 'reggae' UNESCO but there'll be no argument from me and most here.

That's a great I-Roy track - can't go far wrong using that backing.

I'm not a great Bob Marley fan in the same way I'm not a great Beatles fan - clearly genius but it's so familiar there's not much point in listening to it a lot more.

I do love his less popular early music best and, if pushed, I might select this as my favourite:

Bob Marley & The Wailers - Selassie Is The Chapel [1968]

The I-Roy track is backed by a Tommy McCook tune and this is one of my favourite of the saxophone player's output:

Tommy Mc Cook & Ernest Ranglin - Ranglin On Bond Street

It is, but not all reggae is Redemption Song.

I'm the opposite - I've got tons of reggae but very little ska. I don't much like the original ska or the revival.

For me, reggae becomes interesting when ska slowed down and became rocksteady which became reggae as it's generally known.

The Burning Spear is very fine.

Never my favourite thing reggae but the stuff Lucky Dube did was excellent.

I prefer Ska to Reggae and with a few exceptions am not a fan of Bob Marley, not dark enough musical wise. A deliberate decision by Island to make him sound like that, he was definitely a lot more successful because of that but not my cup of tea

True about Bob - as I said before I love the early Wailers, especially the Lee Perry productions, but there's also no doubting the greatness of his commercial output either - just not generally for me and too familiar to still be interesting.

I'm trying not to end up posting a huge list of my favourite reggae tracks but I genuinely think it's the one genre I just couldn't do without in my life (but no ska!).

By coincidence, a Mad Professor session he did for Peel was featured on Gideon Coe on 6Music last night: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0001ds9

He was the producer whose studio I visited a few months ago. He's best known for his dub work although that's maybe not true for LOvers Rock fans like me - he had a huge number of hits in the reggae charts over quite a few years and is still producing great music.

I only really know of his remix work with Massive Attack, he remixed their album Protection, calling it No Protection. It's a dark dubby mess (in a good way)

No, not even Argentinian Ska.

I love The Specials and Madness once they became less Ska and built their own identities, especially The Specials, but I just can't be doing with that jerky rhythm. I'll be honest, I've never understood how people find Ska easier to listen to than reggae.

As previously mentioned, I will admit to being weird like that, I don't much care for 60's Motown either although I'm not 'against' it either.
