I've enjoyed some of it over the years but can''t say I know much about it.
I'm hoping someone here would be able to help me and inform, educate and entertain with their favourites.

This is a nice gloomy one.

I'm in the same boat TBH.

I started listening to Classic FM in the car, as I was fed up with the inane drivel from every other breakfast & drive time show I experienced.

Apart from an unhealthy obsession in playing Conga del Fuego, it's pretty good.
I'm starting to recognise composers by their style but not individual pieces yet.
Particularly like a bit of Debussy, me.

I come from a classical family and even played the cello when I was young but can't say I listen much.

I think classical music was far more widely listened to a generation ago and it seems a shame that's been lost.

I can't say that I have the time or the energy to invest in it now though, especially since there's so much else good music to listen to but I enjoy it now and again.

Foxie and Gerv are keen on the classics. I'm with Claude inasmuch I was irritated by the music radio stations and now listen to Classic or Radio 4. There is a bit of snobbery around classical music and Classic FM is not for die-hard Radio 3 listeners but it should be seen as entry level appreciation of the classics. A bit like one's journey along the the alcohol route by starting with two litre plastic bottles of cheapo cider and a few years later (and minus a good chunk of the cerebellum) appreciating a 15 Year malt or a chilled bottle of Oyster Bay.

I like classical, although don't listen as much as i used to.

It gripped me at school when we did 1812 and planet suite but it wasn't until I was much older and dumped anything apart from classic fm or r3 while in car. That's when I discovered the mellower adagio/ nocturne style.

If I had to pick a favourite composer I'd say Chopin.
Probably my favourite piece is either
concerto de aranguez- Rodrigo
or
John Murphy adagio d minor
The second one is quite modern though

I like a bit of classical, got a bundle but time for it is difficult. I always recommend Aled Jones on Sunday morning on Classic FM. Decent stuff, nothing ridiculously heavy and chosen by the listeners.

That is so sad I have to be in the right mood to listen to it. Absolutely and magnificently poignant.

I love classical music, I always have, all through punk/new wave etc, I always defaulted to classical, it is probably (with a few exceptions) the only "genre" that moves me to tears. it is the cornerstone of music imo.

Opera. That's for advanced students isn't it?
I can manage some arias but to sit through a whole one would be too much at the moment.
This is from an opera but sung quite often on it's own,I think.

I used to go to classical concerts regularly in the 1970s with some people I worked with in Bromley. My hearing isn't so good now and I can't hear some of the frequencies when I listen to CDs or the radio. I think I subconsciously fill in bits.
I once had a whim and I had to obey it
To buy a French Horn in a second-hand shop;
I polished it up and I started to play it
In spite of the neighbours who begged me to stop.

A lot of the high and low frequencies, and dynamic range, are lost on record, particularly CD (and as for downloads/streaming  ).
The pop and rock industry get round it by remastering original recordings to give them oomph. If they do that with acoustic folk and classical it sounds ridiculous, so that's why classical buffs (even me - I'm no buff but I did buy a lot of the popular classical repertoire in the 1970s) kept hold of their LPs.
