The other won’t be found. It’s all be lost to the great exiled graveyard in the sky.

Marianne Faithful - gypsy faerie queen

Produced by Bad Seed Warren Ellis and backing vocals by Nick Cave. This is one of my tracks of the year

All good.

The LCD is very Suicide in style but a touch underwhelming.

The Newman goes along nicely without really going anywg=here much.

I agree that the Faithfull is the stand-out track with that later-period voice still as original as ever, and a fascinating song - there'll be repeated listens of that one!

Odd thing, ain't it... you meet people one at a time, they seem decent, they got brains that work, and then they get together and you hear the voice of the people. And it snarls.

It's hard to get past the big drums and gospel choir cliches but I'll follow your lead and give it a couple more goes.

It is all a bit epic isn't it and not normally my thing. But isn't that music all over...

Wise words, Gassy.

I've wondered several times recently about the way we (OK, I) listen to music, particularly why certain types of musical devices annoy me so much while others give me pleasure.

For example, the big drums and gospel choir thing is a complete turn-off but I could listen to 70's soul-harmony all day and it's just as cliche-ridden.

I thought maybe that I don't like music that isn't 'real' but that's certainly not true using the same example.

I think maybe it's twofold. Firstly, there's no listening depth to the drum/choir sound, it's not like harmonies, it's just a 'sound', and a lazy one - a substitute for emotional singing/playing. The second is that it sounds fake - it might or might not be fake emotion but it sure sounds that way.

I dunno - doesn't work for me though...

Enjoyed them both - The Aphex Twin needs a fair bit of concentration because there's a lot going on but that's no bad thing.

Vince Staples - Fun
Just talking to Miles and he tells me this 'dropped' yesterday - like it lots but probably not a keeper. Interesting visual too.

He's been getting me up to date - lots of the stuff he listens to (and is popular) is good but almost entirely unoriginal - great for the dancefloor but no, you wouldn't listen to it again in 10 months, never mind 10 years.

This I do really like - I guess it's a bit obvious since she's pretty much a female Chance The Rapper but, hey, that can't be a bad thing. Her previous album is excellent too:

Noname - Ace (ft. Smino & Saba)

That's a sobering watch, Gassy.

Every day in London there are killings in the areas I used to know well - there was always bad stuff going on but on nothing like the scale of today and there are no easy answers...

Some from the last year, wading through history some good some not so

Burial & Four Tet - Moth

Kettenkarussell - Maybe

Moby - Falling Rain And Light

Martin Garrix - Yottabyte this is the not so

Jon Hopkins - Emerald Rush

Underworld & Iggy Pop - Bells & Circles
Thanks Undi.

Got round to listening to them all and all worth a listen as usual. My views below for what they're worth.

Burial & Four Tet - Moth: decent but outstays it's welcome a bit.

Kettenkarussell - Maybe: Like it - very Masters At Work which is a positive but I don't much like the treated vocals.

Moby - Falling Rain And Light: Not great - heard it all before.

Martin Garrix - Yottabyte: fairly standard trappy EDM but well done I guess.

Jon Hopkins - Emerald Rush: I like this - a couple of original touches.

Underworld & Iggy Pop - Bells & Circles: Unsurprisingly easily the most accomplished given the pedigree of the artists. I really like the way that the track builds and Iggy being Iggy is always good value. Not sure I'd want to relisten too many times though.

The Kettenkarussell probably my fave because I like that particular sound rather than it being particularly better than the others.

Weirdly, I think I'd like to hear the Underworld without the Iggy talkover.

Blue Girl - Chromatics girly electro pop

PSYCHIC DATA - TVAM Electro rock tune, right up my street this, dark as you like

Dusted - Seasons pretty sounding, reminds me of Galaxie 500 definitely a hint of 80's altternative, and War on drugs sound a bit similar too

Bassackwards - Kurt Vile

White Star Liner - PSB

Well, completed my homework and can report as follows:

Blue Girl - Chromatics:

Fun tune - very 80's, very OMD

PSYCHIC DATA - TVAM:

I'm with you Undi, like this lots. Probably my favourite of all your recent suggestions and I'm surprised they (he) are not more successful than it seems they are.

Dusted - Seasons:

Decent but not really my thing.

Bassackwards - Kurt Vile:

Know of him and didn't think I'd like it but it's really good. Particularly like the combination of tech and acoustic.

White Star Liner - PSB:

There's always one I don't much like and this is the one - dull.
