Van briefly played with The Wheels, before they were named The Wheels, as part of the Belfast scene. He left and they moved to the UK and did this slower bassy version of his song:

And over in Australia a group called The Spektors also did a cover featuring their drummer Bon Scott on vocals - he went on to some success a fair few years later.

Judith Durham does have a fantastic voice although I'm a bit more of a Francoise Hardy fan (see below).

Gene Clark's reputation has been growing over the last few years and rightly so, although I'm not so keen on the singer-songwriter genre in general.

You'll be unsurprised to know I've got a few covers of Moanin' myself.

The Charles Mingus version is obviously very 'jazz' and great but I'm fond of this vocal version by Regina Bell.

She's was better known as a straight soul vocalist early in her career but this is maybe a bit more interesting. From a very fine album of covers called 'Lazy Afternoon':

There's something wrong there. Maybe it's just out of sync but as a (poor, admittedly) ex-drummer, the audio and the video don't seem to quite match.

I didn't used to be much of a Moon fan as I always thought him a bit 'busy' but I must say I've revised my view over recent years - his style certainly suited The Who.

It's hard to say who my drum heroes are - certainly all of the several James Brown drummers plus Art Blakey (see the original 'Moanin').

Yes, i remember there being a best drummer ever type program presented by Mark Radcliffe alongside Copeland and he said that he was disapointed not to see Copeland's name in the top 20, and he's a drummer.

He's pretty good but I still find it hard to get over him being in The Police who rode the punk and reggae bandwagons without the necessary conviction for either. Decent enough pop music in hindsight though but not for me.

The Weezer album is the sort of thing that will only be available for a short time.

The most disappointing thing about streaming services is the way tracks get deleted without any warning. I was looking for some Bob James tracks which I'd added to the library, probably following something we've discussed here, only to find them "greyed out" and not available. Some other rarities or obscurities as well.

I've never had a problem except for tracks that once upon a time I logged on where my main collection was and now doesn't play on Spotify because it appears in my collection, not sure why but to be honest I rarely switch that laptop on these days

I know this version of Tobacco Road from Edgar and Johnnie Winter from one of the CBS samplers I mention from time-to-time - quite sophisticated listening for an eleven or twelve year old although it's a pretty straightforward version:
