Loaded

Post by Undie » Mon Oct 22, 2018 9:59 pm

As of Friday this week, me and a friend of mine start a run of regular monthly night's in Peterborough.Called Loaded, named after one of our fav tunes. Symbolic as it's a track that defies genres.

The first time I've done anything apart from a reunion night and a long time since my oppo has done either.

Nervous but excited

Been practising at home, all set up in the loft

Very nice too!

It's an ambition to learn the basics of DJing one day - I tried once or twice but it seems there's more to it than just playing my favourite tunes in a row.

Either way I hope it goes well - I don't know if it's possible to record the set and put it online but I'd love to give it a listen.

There'll always be some wag at the end of the evening who'll come up to the stage and ask, 'Do you play requests?' and you'll say, 'Yes, what do you want, ' and he'll say, 'Can you play Faraway?' and stagger off laughing fit to bust.

Mark Lamarr tells that he gave up DJing because people kept asking for 'something I know'.

That and having someone come and ask him to play 'some funk' while a Funkadelic track was actually being played.

Bet you all can't guess who I am....
Odd thing, ain't it... you meet people one at a time, they seem decent, they got brains that work, and then they get together and you hear the voice of the people. And it snarls.

:D Learnt some things tonight, charging to get in a bar when they don't normally charge puts some people off. Alternating between decks and door isn't much to either.

However, when the owner says it's the best night she's had since she's been there, says it was a good night.

it would seem we are to become a monthly thing. :D

That’s excellent news Undi.

I’m intrigued what the set-up is. Is it a room for dancing with a dance floor or is it more of a listening thing? And who are your punters - oldies like me, youngsters like you, students, or a mixture? Is it pub hours or are you playing chill out as the sun comes up (probably not)?

A rough setlist might be fun too.

I think there’s a new train service from the end of my street to PB so you never know...

Sorry didn't see this. I wasn't being deliberately rude. Not this time anyway

Its a coffee shop/ cocktail bar type room. There is a cracking room downstairs that we want in on. If they can make upstairs a success downstairs conversation into a cellar room for in nights/ bands will get the go ahead.

The part of town it is in, is predominantly for older crowds. Certainly over 30s. A very nice area, the kids can go and get hammered in rougher pubs a bit further along and the middle aged get to relive their youth.
Other nights run at our venue are gay disco, and a few house nights too.

We were asked to play on their NYE night too. 3 nights in one, us 9-11, disco to house 11-1 and house 1-3.
We seem to be very much liked at the moment.
30th November our next night.

Set list, mmm. We played a bit of all sorts. Doors, stone roses, lyn Collins, ll cool j, primal scream, Blondie, Nancy Williams, clash, daft punk, Supremes.

Sounds really good - does that mean there's a dancefloor or not though? Maybe a clear area in front of the decks?

And Nancy Williams? Can't say I've heard of her.

Very nice eclectic mix apart from that. The gay disco night sounds interesting too - there was an interesting time in the 80's when gay clubs and 'soul' clubs were playing very similar tunes - a Paradise Garage setlist would have been fine in most of the 'black' South London places I went to.
