Yes to both of those.
I'm posting a couple of covers of For What It's Worth on that thread.

Re: Loaded
All of those look good for keeping that vibe going.
Groove is in the Heart and Love Shack always hit the rock/dance spot.
Personally I'd always sneak this funky one in:
Apparently Nothin' - Young Disciples (1991)

Re: Loaded
Just a thought on your gay night. I don't know when you're finishing the set or whether you're playing to the end but there is a tradition going back to the NYC clubs of playing the night out with a subset of 'sleaze' or 'morning music' which is a combination of coming down and/or copping off tunes....

Re: That money was simply resting in their bank account
Dre is obviously a hip-hop genius but he's unwise to be getting involved in this particular scandal. Was reading this earlier: If you think corruption in elite US college admissions is bad, what happens once those students are in the classroom is even worse. I know, because I teach at an elite Ameri...

Re: Scott Walker
Love his popular music (mostly, see below) and been on the ‘must investigate further’ list for a decade or more.
Sadly, like others, it’s his death that will push me to do just that...
The exception is 'Jacky' that is just too camp and melodramatic for me.

Sorry Undi, I didn't make it clear that that's what I did and commented 'I can't testify to how it sounded then but it sounds pretty good to me now'.Undie wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 2:53 pmIt was only because the video is deemed over 18.

Re: Little Gems
Santo & Johnny is great. Albatross is also great and I remember it from childhood so it's pretty vivid. Soulsister on the old Radio 2 music board had Peter Green (writer and guitarist of/on the song) staying at her place in Brighton for 6 months during one of his periods of mental illness (I think t...

Re: Ale
Jennings is owned by Marston's. I used to like their Sneck Lifter, but it's a bit "heavy". Cornwall's Doom Bar used to be good, until Coors and Wetherspoon's got hold of it. St Austell's Brewery down that way is still independent. Tribute is a nice IPA - Proper Job is even better but unlikely to be...

Re: Ale
I'll have to find a pub in London that sells Hawkshead - I think there are a couple that I could get to in due course. I quite like Jennings which I think is Cumbrian but I also think it was taken over by one of the big brewers a while ago. I like to try the different beers but, with the explosion o...

Ale
I know there used to be a thread for us ale drinkers so I thought I’d resurrect it. Always swerved Aldi own brand beers but was given a bottle of their ‘Wild Bill’s IPA’ (not that one) by a mate and really liked it. It reminded of Marston’s ‘Old Empire’ which is a favourite. Had a look at the label ...

Thanks, I don't think I know any of them. I will get back to you. The prodigy night seems to have a will of its own. We have gone from our FB having around 60 followers (early days) to having a little promotion and Keith's death being felt around here to 136 in just a few days. The event has been s...

I will take loads and judge the crowd to decide. Young hearts and I feel Love are a given. I am not sure whether Get Your Hands Off of my Man is too camp ? Oh I am very much after suggestions and having a library is much easier now we use an mp3 controller. If I haven't got it, I can either buy it ...

Thanks for that - great harmonies (a big love of mine) that lift it above similar folky music and the tiny flashes of Fripp (?) guitar are great too.Psmith wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 11:19 pmThe Roches

Chris Farlowe Out of time https://youtu.be/bpDjbul0WyE Love this, reminds me of Whitley Bay ice rink when I was a kid, skating round and round and round when we stayed with my Grandpa. On my one sojourn to Nottingham ice rink they had someone on the hammond organ, and Reginald Dixon he (or she) was...

Re: Little Gems
Quite like the Fontaines DC and Dick Dale is (was) great too.
I've been rewinding this fantastic non-cheesy disco classic a lot recently - great intro and just love it when the bassline drops:

Re: Loaded
Keener on gay disco than The Prodigy. Oh me too, it's like a dream come true. I love a bit of gay disco but as a straight man the last thing I want to come across is patronising with the set choice. It's going to be one that I have a long hard think about. Not every gay person wants to hear Sylvest...

Re: Loaded
This month we are going for a Prodigy hour. Although I have never been a massive fan they have been important to the scene that I am very much part of now, his Firestarter image has been used on at least one of our old flyers a very 90's image. The suicide of someone of a similar age has bothered m...
